Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim believes his team should get more games from a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, but admits that their attacks are inefficient, killing them.
The Red Devils suffered the courtesy of solo efforts by former player Anthony Elanga in Game 13 of the season, but unfortunately, they were reluctant to play after many opportunities.
Amorim reflected on United on a frustrating night when talking about TNT sports, which dominated the property and created opportunities but failed to find a breakthrough.
The Portuguese manager said: “We controlled the game, but we already knew this team could get nothing. When they score, we changed the game from what they wanted.
“We tried good opportunities, but in the last third, the last assist didn’t exist. At that time, if we didn’t have that, we wouldn’t be able to score.”
Amorim: “We need to be better in the last third”
According to Amorim, it is a familiar story for Manchester United, where his team strives to turn the advantage into goals.
“This season is like this,” he said. “We have a lot of shots in our goal, we push our opponents to the last third, but in the last third, we lack quality.
“We need to win the game, and we deserve more games in this game, which is obvious, but it’s our fault, we need to get better in the last third. We should win the game, and we haven’t even won the game, but in the end, we lost three points.”
More counterattacks and attack disasters
As the forests make full use of their limited opportunities, United’s vulnerability to counterattacks has been exposed again.
Amorim added: “We know the role of the team, and a goal can put them in a situation they like. We have to score two goals to win the game, which is frustrating because it’s the beginning of the game. We helped them win three points.”
Despite his disappointment, Amorim insists that he still sees improvement and remains focused on the upcoming challenges for the Premier League and Europa League.
“I saw it in the game. I don’t lie to myself; everyone can say what they want to say, but we need to win the game. We go to the next game. We have the Europa League, we have the next game in the Premier League, and that’s the point.”
