Every golfer wants to be able to hit that tall, soft bunker on command. Not only does it stand out from the face, it is also a convenient option around the green, and it is easier to master than you think.

According to the top 100 teachers who creators of golf viewing and short-term game chef Parker McLachlin, you only need to remember one important concept: Join the club, not your swing.

Add the club’s loft with the setting adjustments, you can add height to bunker shooting without manipulating the swing, a common mistake among amateurs.

By using the same swing each time, you can accurately predict when the club enters the sand, thereby improving your connection and consistency.

Just like anything in life, the more you work, the better. And, McLachlin says, one of the best ways to practice lofts with your club is to hit the bunker with a low wedge. He explained that this exercise will help you understand the settings adjustments you need to maximize address lofts and avoid changing the swing.

Set the key to the high cover lens

1. Stand further afield. Retreat from the ball half to all.

2. Place your club at the address.

3. Put down your hand. McLachlin hovered on his knees.

4. Put your hand back slightly. This will expose more rebound.

5. Slightly fall backwards.

After setting, swing. McLachlin said the only goal in the shot should be to hit the ball higher than the flagpole. Remember, this drill is designed to teach you how to preset the loft, so as long as the ball is fired high, the result doesn’t matter.
