Rory McIlroy succumbed to his knees with what he called “suppressed emotions.”
Darren Riehl
Augusta, Ga. – Sixty-five days ago, Rory McIlroy stood in front of a white tent, his self-depressed and he scored too many points. He looked at a group of golf media and left us with the last sentence:
“I’ll go through 100 Sundays like this to win another big title.”
You want to believe him, but you can’t be sure. We are at Beverly Hills at Los Angeles Country Club, home to his latest 2023 U.S. Open. You can’t think of 100 Sundays like this. one hundred? But compared to Master 2025, LACC is nothing.
One thousand days agoMcIlroy stood on another podium in St. Andrews, Scotland, doing his best. It was already late, he was about to go to bed, and he knew that when he woke up he would steal the big yellow rankings. For a few days, his name wasn’t on top of them. That night, he answered 13 questions about beating numbers, quit his job from under the microphone, and found the building crying out his wife’s arm.
He said that stunt was different. Because McIlroy will only have more games open to St Andrews. Their predictions are relatively unpredictable. The next one is 2027, who knows after that. The masters are so different.
Because he played in the same competition year after year, we know McIlroy’s moves. It’s a game in Dubai, then Monterey, then Los Angeles in Florida, and heading to Georgia. Sometime in February every year, he started Long In April and the time it is available. But every year he encounters all the “noise” around him his Master Zhou, no one else. Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Gary player, Tom Watson and countless other game legends have all publicly promised that he would win the green coat he needed for the professional grand slam. The monkey behind him was chubby.
“It’s hard to bear,” he said, hoping they won’t say it.
McIlroy should know he It is the one who creates this sound. He won anywhere. It’s not our fault, but one of his need arrive. It’s not our fault, his last round felt like a giant tug of war in history. Start with your arms. Put down his club halfway through, just to be a birdie. The caddie who hit him asked him not to, just to exercise. McIlroy was so nervous that he could hardly eat. But he maintained a five-stroke lead in 64 half holes.
Customers are getting the Grand Slam they appear, but they don’t want it to be without fireworks. No one really wants to be crowned. So when McIlroy irresponsibly left his third shot in the green creek, fourth This week’s double bogey, a wave of doubts and a new life on the property. Large-scale rankings clicked on Red 11 (bottom) after his Red 13. cheer Now, these bets have increased again. McIlroy is now Houdini’s most horrifying version, a form that makes you worry about him locking himself in a chain underwater. If he doesn’t go out, it will be ugly.
“Did I let this slip again?” McIlroy said to himself.
Yes, man. again.
Three hundred years agoMcIlroy attacked from the parking lot in Pinehurst. His scores are too many again. Forty minutes later, his private plane was in the sky and went home. If he looked out the window, he might see Bryson DeChambeau parades the trophy through a crowd of spectators, many of whom enjoyed the trophy in the latest McIlroy Mishap.
McIlroy did not miss a word for the press, his fans or the rest of the golf world that night. A few days later, he licked his wounds in various places in New York City, walking the high line, a tourist, elevated boardwalk where he might be lost in the loneliness of the masses. He sat down to think about it, called those close to him and began to think about his next major.
He said it was easier than the last one every day, and when he promised that he wouldn’t encounter this position again, you would be forgiven for being at the end of the rope. But if you’re watching, then Sunday, you’ll watch again. This is the rope. Like the epitome of his main championship journey, just when you thought he did it, he wouldn’t. Just when you think he can’t do it.
To count them, McIlroy had to win – lose – Green coat about six times. He followed the bogey of that creek and gave Justin Rose a lead. His hard hook method at 15 was a shot of his life until he pulled up a 4-foot hawk putt. The dart he fell at 17 was his greatest 8 iron until he bobs after 18 seconds and made the playoffs with Rose.
“It’s not easy for me today,” he said. “Of course it’s not easy for me.”
He never did this in this course.
Five thousand, one hundred and seventeen days agoMcIlroy is 21 years old this year. He maintained a four-shot lead on the 10th T-shirt box before hooking the duck into the cabin left for members on the left side of the tree. His world quickly collapsed that day, McIlroy stared at the sky, looking for the answer. We never know how many times he thought about it (or just that shot) since then, but we do know that we couldn’t realize him until the end putt fell.
At around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, McIlroy threw the putt on his head and let the gravity take him to the ground. like all The road to the ground. Head, shoulders, knees and toes. He called it “at least 11 years, if not 14 years, suppressing emotions.” He also called it a burden, but when he said so, he was wearing a new 38-liter jacket.
A few minutes later, McIlroy was asked to be imaginative. Let yourself go back to Sunday night in 2011a reporter asked. What will you see and what will you say?
McIlroy saw a young man who knew nothing about the world and said, “I want to say to him, just stay. Keep believing.”
For someone as eloquent and thoughtful as McIlroy, athletic cliches may make you roll your eyes. However, you can also wipe these eyes and get emotional. It doesn’t need this way, but it’s better somehow. For everyone.
